The majority of Canadians are responsible drinkers … and the trends are improving (Statistics Canada):

  • well over 80% of Canadians drink in moderation

  • since 2015, there has been a 34% reduction in heavy drinking

  • since 2010, there has been a 30% reduction in fatally injured drinking drivers

  • since 2008/2009, underage drinking is down by 17%

Reducing Harmful Consumption

Canada has been at the forefront of international efforts to reduce the harmful consumption of alcohol for many years. CARD supports these efforts as reducing harmful consumption is the most effective way to reduce alcohol related harms.
