Following the conclusion of the local government elections in Rivers State, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, on Monday urged President Bola Tinubu to rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike. Governor Sim Fubara at work.

Goerge said Tinubu would be the biggest loser if he did not warn Wike.

Fubara had conducted the local government elections in Rivers State without the presence of the Nigerian Police Force, NPF.

Under Fubara, the Action People’s Party, APP, captured 22 local government areas, while Action Alliance won the last seat.

Before the elections, Wike and Fubara were at loggerheads over control of the political structure in the state.

George, however, warned Tinubu that democracy would not be curtailed under his leadership.

In a statement he made, the PDP leader said: “Now that the people of Rivers State have courageously asserted their civil and constitutional rights by voting in the local government elections on Saturday, this is the time to salute the former Governor of the state and now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to make Governor Siminalayi Fubara work and deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

“This is also the time for President Bola Tinubu to advise Wike, one of his ministers, to allow the governor to work.

“I say this with all sense of responsibility because if this democracy is curtailed, God forbid, Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief will be the biggest loser.”
