ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabaster City Schools is making good progress with their new employment opportunities for students.

They have several industrial partners on board.

Chief Inspector Dr. Wayne Vickers said this space will be life-changing for students and their goal is to prepare the next generation to enter the workforce and successfully obtain employment.

The $1.9 million investment will house the ACES Alternative School, a community hall and the long-awaited Champions Craft Academy.

“Welding, HVAC, building construction, industrial maintenance, because those job needs are there in our community and we have so much interest in them,” said Dr. Vickers.

Each space will be approximately 3,000 square feet and will include a classroom and laboratory space.

“Where our students will have access to a high level of job preparation, certification programs and partnerships with local businesses,” said Dr. Vickers.

And every student who visits the craft academy is linked to a job and/or internship.

“We have partners within our community who reach out to us and when that student walks across the stage, they have a job offer in hand and they are ready to go to work if they aren’t already,” said Dr. Vickers.

The school system hopes to have this space open in time for the 2025 school year.
