According to city spokeswoman Reba Holley, the flashing signal’s inadequate gaps have led to risky behavior among motorists, saving a brief minute.

“In recent years the number of accidents and near misses has certainly increased,” said Police Chief James Rosso. According to police data, more than thirty accidents have occurred in the past three years.

To put an end to the safety problem, there are plans to install a fully functioning traffic light.

“By regulating traffic flow with this new signal, we can reduce accidents, improve visibility and ensure smoother and safer travel for everyone in our community,” said Rosso.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation gave the project the green light this week, signing a cost-sharing agreement with plans for installation in 2025.
