Fargo man went to North Carolina to help with recovery efforts

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – A Fargo man is on a mission to help with recovery efforts in North Carolina.

Austin Stenbak’s grandmother lives there, and he’s going there on Friday.

More than 200 people have died after Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida last week.

More than half of the deaths occurred in North Carolina, where entire communities were devastated by several feet of fast-moving water.

“Up here, we’re used to rescuing people during snowstorms,” Stenbak said. “What’s happening down there doesn’t really match our reality. They all live by that.”

That is why Stenbak does what he can. He plans to do a Costco run to stock up on essentials and deliver them to those in need.

“I’m just trying to make it easier for the people down there. I want to make sure people get what they need.”

President Joe Biden announced that up to 1,000 active-duty soldiers will join the National Guard to deliver supplies, food and water to isolated communities.
