JACKSON — Kevin Yu triumphed in the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday, securing his first PGA Tour victory with a spectacular performance at The Country Club of Jackson.

Yu made a 15-foot birdie on the 18th hole to end the final round with a 5-under par 67. He then made another birdie on the 18th to beat Beau Hossler in a playoff.

With his winning putt, Yu secured a spot in the 2025 Masters and the PGA Championship for the first time. He will also begin his season at Kapalua for The Sentry, a meeting of PGA Tour winners in 2024.

“It’s literally a dream come true,” Yu said. “I’ve been dreaming about this moment since I was five. I think this is the dream for all golfers: to win on the PGA Tour. And then I did it today, and I’m very grateful to my parents right now. Without them I don’t think I could have done this.”

Initially overshadowed in a final round between Hossler and Keith Mitchell, the 26-year-old from Taiwan drew level with his birdie on the final regular hole.

In regulation, Hossler hit his drive on 18 behind a tree, but was able to get up and down to save par. Mitchell had a 35-foot birdie putt to win that one, and it narrowly slipped past the left edge of the hole. He then missed the ensuing four-foot putt for par, shot 70 and missed the playoff.

When they replayed the 18th for the playoff, Yu placed his approach shot within six feet of the hole and made the putt for birdie. Hossler botched his drive for the second time. Hossler was able to get up and down from a bunker to save par, but saw his chance for his first Tour victory slip away.

Hossler, a 29-year-old from California who turned pro in 2016, has never won in 200 career starts on the PGA Tour. He grabbed a share of the lead with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and lost it just as quickly when Yu rallied on the 18th hole.

“Even though I didn’t have my best stuff on the back nine, I grinded really hard,” Hossler said. “Get some really quality shots under the gun, and that’s all you can do. Apparently Kevin played a great hole in the play-off.”

The 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship marked the Laurel-based company’s 12th year as the title sponsor of Mississippi’s only PGA Tour event. Sanderson Farms initially announced it would end its membership after this year, but then changed course and re-signed for 2025.

The Sanderson Farms Championship primarily benefits Children’s of Mississippi, the state’s only children’s hospital, in addition to more than 70 other Mississippi charities.

“What a great week it has been for everyone, including our fans, our title sponsor Wayne-Sanderson Farms, our tournament sponsors and especially Kevin,” said Steve Jent, executive director of the Sanderson Farms Championship. “I am confident that we will be able to have a major impact on our community. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2025 and will announce our new dates in the coming weeks.”
