Lewis Hamilton is at the top of many Formula 1 records, but even he has been caught in numerous Grand Prix accidents throughout his career.

Hamilton joined the sport with McLaren in 2007. The 22-year-old immediately became a threat at the front, winning his first race at the Canadian Grand Prix, becoming the youngest race winner in F1 at the time.

The Briton beat two-time champion Fernando Alonso as his teammate that year, and in 2008 Hamilton became the youngest-ever F1 world champion – until Sebastian Vettel won the title in 2010 – at the Brazilian Grand Prix, after dramatically overtaking Timo Glock in final corner of the last lap and by one point he overtook the home hero Felipe Massa in the fight for the championship.

However, following this success, McLaren’s decline in performance and numerous incidents that occurred over the next few years prevented Hamilton from challenging for the championship. Ultimately, the Briton left the Woking team – with which he had been associated since the age of 13 – and in 2013 he joined Mercedes.

Although his debut season saw little improvement, Hamilton and the Silver Arrows proved to be a lethal combination in the turbo hybrid era, winning six of the next seven world championships and breaking numerous F1 records. He lost the 2016 title to teammate Nico Rosberg after a fierce battle that led to both players meeting several times.

In 2021, Hamilton lost to Max Verstappen after a dramatic title battle throughout the season. After the two vehicles collided multiple times, the Dutchman secured the title in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi and has since asserted his dominance on the field in the ground effect era, while Mercedes struggles to compete.

While Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins, pole positions and podiums in F1 history and has proven to have incredible racing skills, there were occasions when the 39-year-old got too close and collided with other drivers while fighting on the track . front and even met his teammates sometimes.

The incident was not the first or last time Hamilton retired after colliding with a teammate, as he was pinned against the barriers by his blind McLaren teammate Jenson Button during the rain-drenched 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. He had previously quarreled with Rosberg. until 2016 at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix when he retired with damage after contact with the German on the second lap.

Historically, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit has not been kind to Hamilton, with five retirements due to accidents. The most dramatic came in 2012, when Romain Grosjean destroyed the pair and several others in a multi-car crash at the first corner.

In 2021, Hamilton argued with Verstappen several times during the fierce title fight. One of the most vivid images in modern F1 history comes from the two-vehicle collision at the Italian Grand Prix, when Red Bull mounted the Mercedes at the first chicane and stayed above Hamilton’s halo system.
