PRETORIA, October 5. /TASS/. The Russian Baltic Fleet ship Neustrashimy took part in a naval festival at South Africa’s main naval base in Simon’s Town on the Atlantic coast on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Russian Consulate General in Cape Town told TASS.

“The warship Neustrashimy has arrived in South Africa upon an invitation to attend the SA Navy Festival,” the diplomat explained. According to him, the Russian ship also took part in a naval parade at Simon’s Town roadstead.

On Saturday afternoon, the Russian Navy frigate was open to visitors and aroused great interest among them, the diplomat said. The head of the South African Navy, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, also visited the Russian warship, he added.

A Chinese frigate also took part in the festival. The event was the first in the past five years and attracted many visitors.

The Neustrashimy, accompanied by the supply ship Akademik Pashin, arrived in Cape Town on Thursday, October 3, local news website Defenseweb reported.
