Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has described himself as the biggest loser in Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

Fubara explained that he would lose because his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not contesting the local government elections in the state on Saturday.

The governor spoke while addressing Rivers political stakeholders at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

He, however, expressed his government’s determination to support the cause of sustainable democracy in the state.

Fubara also vowed that he will not tolerate any confusion or any attempt to cause instability in the state during the elections.

According to Fubara: “You know these elections, I am the biggest loser because my party is not participating. It’s the truth.

“But because of the Supreme Court ruling that there must be elected officials to manage the affairs of local governments, as governor I must comply.

“It didn’t stop there. The President invited us after the Supreme Court ruling and we agreed to a 90-day compliance period.

“So what we are doing here is to ensure that even if my party does not participate, the council process should stand for Rivers State.

“And a lot of you here are loyal to my party and you don’t even benefit from it, and you support us here. What’s the problem?

“I would like to thank you all for your very peaceful attitude. You see, I didn’t make any mistake when I said that we should follow this battle with a different tactic.

“If you have a very special egg with you and someone comes to fight you, should you fight that person?”
