Good morning, Idaho

As a cold front approaches the area, expect gusty winds during the afternoon. This has caused southeastern Oregon and east of Mountain Home and the Central Mountains to be placed under a red flag warning.

Southeast Oregon could experience wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour. That is why a wind advisory applies in addition to the existing red flag warning.

These advisories are in effect until 9 p.m.

As of this morning, a new fire was found southeast of Boise on Highway 21, known as the Valley Fire. It is the main contributor to the smoke plume above the foothills. The wind will shift to a south-westerly flow during the afternoon, causing the smoke plume to shift northwards. This will provide some relief for those in the Boise area.

Saturday looks to be a lot calmer, with the wind easing towards the morning. This will help firefighters control the Valley Fire.

As for temperatures, we’ll cool towards the 70s tomorrow and the 80s will return on Monday.

Have a safe weekend Idaho
