Las Vegas Raiders winger Davante Adams, who has submitted a trade request, reportedly wants to sign a deal with the New York Jets that would reunite him with former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.

When asked about the interest in Adams reported during Friday’s press conference with reporters, Rodgers responded as follows (h/t Kevin Patra of NFL.com).

“I don’t know how much I can say about it because of the manipulation, but I still have a close friendship with him,” Rodgers said. “We spent time together in the offseason. He’s a great guy and a great player. The rest is not in my hands.”

Rodgers and Adams were teammates in Green Bay for eight years (2014-2021). The two have had great success together, especially in the last two seasons. Rodgers won back-to-back NFL MVPs, and Adams caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns in those two years.

The Jets can certainly use Adams. The offense, which ranks only 22nd in the NFL in points per game, had a slow start (19.0 PPG). Adams jumped right in and became the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, taking some of the attention away from Garrett Wilson, who started his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns.

The pinnacle of Rodgers-Adams’ success came when Nathaniel Hackett was taking shots as the Packers’ offensive coordinator. He now serves in the same role with the Jets, and it’s certainly possible that everyone will be able to recreate that old Packers magic.

Of course, the Jets should have competition for Adams given his resume. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All Pro who has over 1,100 yards rushing in five of the last six years. Adams has been dealing with a weekly hamstring injury, although it has not been reported to be a long-term issue.

However, Adams moving to the Jets makes sense. Whether that happens is up for debate, but Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported that the Raiders will make a deal for Adams “well before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, and a deal could be done as early as next week.” We’ll soon see if Adams and Rodgers reunite.
