A Massachusetts chef won a $10 million lottery prize on a game he played because he thought he had better chances of winning a big prize.

Michael Fitzgerald, of Boylston, won $10 million playing the “$10,000,000 Cash Blast” scratch-off game, which costs $20 per ticket to play.

Fitzgerald chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $6,500,000 before taxes.

The Bolyston chef told the Lottery he chose the $20 scratch-off game because he saw there were still plenty of big prizes to be won.

Fitzgerald bought his winning ticket at Star Liquor, a package store at 507 Boston Tpke., of Route 9, in Shrewsbury. The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
