Governor Siminalyi Fubara of Rivers State has regretted that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not contest the local government elections in the state on Saturday, October 5.

Governor Fubara said this on Thursday, October 3, during a meeting with some stakeholders of the party at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, Channels TV reports.

As reported by Vanguard, he said the elections should be held on Saturday to comply with the three-month extension given by the federal government to begin implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy.

“You know, these elections are the biggest losers because my party is not participating. It’s the truth!” Fubara said.

Legit.ng recalls that Fubara has declared Thursday and Friday public holidays so that residents can fulfill their civic duty during the local government elections on Saturday, October 5.

The governor made the announcement in a statewide broadcast at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi.
