Governor Phil Murphy is “troubled” by a series of NJ.com reports that exposed allegations of ethical and financial misconduct in New Jersey’s publicly funded charter school sector, and says he is “exploring options” to address the problems suits in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Education and Legislature, a spokeswoman told NJ Advance Media on Friday.

The statement from Murphy’s office is in response to an investigation by NJ.com showing that a wife-and-husband team earned nearly $600,000 in combined total compensation running a small charter school in Newark, actually living in Florida, in addition reports from other school leaders around the world. the state earns salaries that far exceed top officials in public districts.

“The governor was disturbed by the findings of these investigative reports,” said Maggie Garbarino, Murphy’s deputy press secretary. “We are actively exploring our options with the Department of Education to respond to these extreme cases, and we look forward to continuing conversations with our partners in the Legislature on this important issue.”
