Well-known starters

Gamecock basketball players Bree Hall and Raven Johnson were Saturday’s celebrity starters, leading the crowd in the Gamecock chant.

The women’s team, which won the national championship in 2024, signed autographs before the match and were due to be honored during halftime.

Salespeople switch to contacts

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers changes his glasses on Saturday.

The redshirt freshman is switching from his Rec Specs to contact lenses, his mother told The State Saturday morning. ESPN’s Rece Davis was the first to say Sellers would make the switch today.

The reason for the change may have been Sellers’ inability to see pass rushers coming from the left and right. Sellers’ mother told The State earlier this year that he hated wearing contact lenses, despite the recommendation of USC athletic trainer Clint Haggard. He wore the glasses his final two years at South Florence High School.

Haggard agreed with Sellers and went to OpticsOutfitter.com, where he found the pair he almost picked out the first time. There it was. The Challenger XL. Sellers’ glasses.
