More than 450,000 cases were referred to the Lok Adalat courts for amicable resolution.

Around 400,000 cases, including matrimonial disputes and road accident claims, were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held in Haryana on Saturday.

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organised the 3rd National Lok Adalat.

According to an official statement, National Lok Adalat has been established in all 22 districts and 34 sub-divisions of Haryana by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) by constituting 167 courts for both pre-trial and pending trials.

More than 450,000 cases were referred to the Lok Adalat courts for amicable resolution.

The purpose of holding the National Lok Adalat is to provide a platform to parties to settle their disputes amicably without delay. The award of the Lok Adalat is final and there is a provision for reimbursement of court fees in case of settlement in the Lok Adalat.

Surya Partap Singh, District and Sessions Judge and also Secretary of HALSA Members, said in the statement that around 400,000 cases have been disposed of.

In Karnal, a case of marital discord came up before the Lok Adalat.

A couple who had been married for more than a decade were involved in a conflict, which led to the husband filing for divorce, according to an official press release.

During the initial conversations, it was clear that both were emotionally exhausted. The court encouraged them to reflect on their shared history, their children and the possibility of reconciliation. The couple decided to withdraw their divorce petition, the statement said.

In Faridabad, a vegetable vendor appeared in court after losing his job due to injuries sustained in the accident. However, without concrete evidence, his chances of receiving compensation from the insurance company seemed slim, the statement said.

District and Sessions Judge Sandeep Garg played a crucial role by calling in the services of an orthopedic surgeon, who diagnosed the applicant’s disability on the spot.

After some negotiations and persuasion from the court, the insurance lawyer gave in and agreed to provide Rs 3.40 lakh as compensation, the statement said.
