Dolphins' Calais Campbell says he was handcuffed during Tyreek Hill arrest | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

The Miami Dolphins defensive lineman revealed in a post-game interview on Sunday that he was also handcuffed when teammate Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic stop and arrested earlier in the morning.

“They actually put handcuffs on me, and I thought, ‘What’s going on?’” he said. “I didn’t understand what was going on. The fact that he put handcuffs on me kind of annoyed me. But it shows how resilient we are. We didn’t let that stop us.”

“I saw Tyreek get pulled over, I just wanted to make sure he was OK, trying to deescalate the situation,” he continued. “The cop got all worked up, put me in handcuffs, and I had to tell myself, ‘Don’t let this get you down. Stay focused, stay in control, and do what you’ve trained to do so you can go out and win the game.’”

Campbell too he told reporters he felt the officers used “excessive force” against Hill and their handling of the situation “was a bit extreme”

Hill’s arrest is being investigated by Miami-Dade police, and one of the arresting officers has since been suspended:

“Apparently he got a ticket for a traffic violation at the stadium,” Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington before Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. “How that escalated to the situation that they were in — handcuffs and being held on the ground by police — is beyond me. I’m deeply concerned, deeply worried, and we’ll look into it. We’ll investigate. We’ll keep an eye on Tyreek. But I’m not going to press charges at this point.”

Hill said he didn’t know why officers pulled him from the vehicle and handcuffed him after he was detained.

“I have no idea. It’s crazy. I have no idea. I wasn’t naughty because my mother didn’t raise me that way,” he said. he told reporters. “I didn’t swear. I didn’t do anything like that. I’m still trying to figure it out… Don’t be rude.”

Hill added that he would like to become a police officer someday and was surprised by the turn of events on Sunday.

“You see it all over the world,” he said. “I don’t want to bring race into it. But sometimes it’s a little iffy when you do it. What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? God knows what those guys would have done. I made sure I did what my uncle told me to do if you ever found yourself in that situation. Put your hands on the wheel and just listen.”
