Mills shares response to final report of independent commission investigating Lewiston tragedy

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – Governor Janet Mills will respond Friday to the final report of the independent commission that investigated the mass shooting in Lewiston.

The governor will hold a press conference at the State House.

Following the October 25 tragedy, the governor and Attorney General Aaron Frey created a commission to investigate the events leading up to the shooting and the police response.

The commission published its final report last month.

No recommendations were made, but it was stated that the army reserve and local police had missed opportunities to intervene and confiscate weapons from the reservist responsible for the shooting.

The commission chairman said the facts set out in the document could be used by others to bring about change and prevent future tragedies.
